It is estimated that there are more than 50 million disabled citizens in Europe, in other words 1 out of 10 citizens. This figure shows even higher if we consider that 1 out 4 families in Europe includes a disabled family member.
According to these figures, how is it possible that we do not often meet disabled persons at the supermarket, in public transport, at school, in the movies or in the restaurant? Simply because our society is full of obstacles for disabled persons : high pavements, silent traffic lights, fast turning doors, inaccessible buildings, inaccessible technologies and websites, cars wrongly parked as well as daily prejudice and discrimination.
Since January this year, we launched a European wide campaign collecting signatures in favour of disability rights in all aspects of life. Our objective is to collect 1 million signatures and to hand them ovever to the European and national decision-makers. Such a citizenship initiative cannot remain ignored!
